The 2017 New Year’s Day 10k

Yes - it's on again !

Sunday 1st January 2017 11:00am - On Road 10K.

It is predominantly on footpaths, park tracks and country lanes. It is for the most part fairly flat, but there is a steep quite long climb at 4-5 K and a steady climb to the finish Registration, finish, and pre-start assembly at Chard Cricket Club. The Cricket Club is reached via the entrance to Chard Football Club on Zembard Lane. If you are travelling down Zembard Lane the entrance is on the right 100 yards before the left turn to the Cresta Leisure Centre. Please do not drive right to the Cricket Club. Please park at the Cresta Leisure Centre off Zembard Lane, or at the parking area at and opposite Holyrood Academy (Holyrood school), near the bottom of Zembard Lane. Please park in these locations and then walk to the Cricket Club, passing the football pitch and clubhouse on your left. There is a baggage store at the Cricket Club. Please bring something like a track suit top to put on after the run, and some change, so you can stay for the presentation and some tea/coffee and hopefully some soup. There are also full changing areas at the Cricket Club.

Directions to the Cricket Club - if you enter Zembard Lane into www.streetmap.co.uk it takes you straight to a map of the area. Be aware that Coombe Street is blocked to vehicles at the junction with Chard High Street, and so the only access to Zembard Lane is via Helliers Road.

If coming from Taunton/Ilminster direction come along A30 into Chard. After passing Focus on left look for right turn into Glynswood that will have a direction arrow for runners and take that turn. Go all the way to T junction at top of hill. Turn Left. Take first left in to Zembard Lane soon after Bell and Crown pub on your right.

If coming from Crewkerne direction go up High Street, past all shops. Pass Museum on your right and take first main turning right in to Helliers Road. As road dips downhill and right take sharp right turn in to Combe Street. Take first left into Zembard Lane.

If coming from Honiton direction pass Barelymows farm shop on outskirts of Chard. Pass Lodge House on your right as you are going downhill. Pass first left turn to Touchstome Lane. Take next main left turn into Helliers Road. If you pass Museum on left you have gone too far. As Helliers road dips downhill and right take sharp right turn in to Combe Street. Take first left into Zembard Lane.

If coming from Axminster/Tatworth direction in Chard turn left off A358 at St.Mary's church with pub on righthand corner. At mini roundabout bear left. At next T junction turn left on to A30. Take first right in to Helliers Road. As road dips downhill and right take sharp right turn in to Combe Street. Take first left into Zembard Lane.

For the 10k runners will walk/jog as a group to start not far from registration at 11:00. Course is a measured 10k.  Please note that while this race is well marshalled runners need to take responsibility for their own safety on the public roads and road crossing points. Dogs are not allowed on route (there is a part of the route through the nature reserve where dogs are specifically not allowed). It is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies. Minimum age 15.  Entries can be made in advance on the form on next page. Race numbers to be collected from Registration area on the day.

There is a trophy for the 1st Male and for the 1st Female and category prizes for category winners.  There will be a water bottle for all advance entrants.  There are baggage and changing facilities at the Cricket Club, with showers. The Cricket club bar will be open, where some warming refreshment at the end of the race will be served, so is good if you can bring a bag to the clubhouse with something warm to put on at the end of the race, and some cash !
